Digital Journey

Simon Ryder was the digital artist commissioned to undertake this 'digital journey' around Gloucestershire and produce an artwork which responds to the place, the people, the landscape and inspiration of Gloucestershire.
In addition, he was commissioned to identify and work with six key Gloucestershire makers and craftspeople, whose work to date had not embraced new technologies.
The six creative collaborations brought about much experimentation, the acquisition of new skills and have allowed for cross-fertilisation of creative practices.Interacting both with Simon and with new digital formats, the artists produced an exhibition 'Digital Extensions' at Prema Arts Centre in July 2002, an extremely stimulating record of the experiments and the range of new works produced.
The collaborators certainly have a clearer view of the potential of digital technology, as well as some of the limitations.

Copies of the CD rom which was part of Simon Ryder's Artist's Journey Commission are available free of charge. They contain images, audio clips and text which relate to the stages of the process Simon undertook in producing his work.
